Cove Burgh Hall was delighted to welcome Jamie Cayzer Colvin last week — the great, great grandson of Sir Charles Cayzer, whose vision and leadership led to the creation of our beautiful hall. Sir Charles became Provost of Cove & Kilcreggan in 1889 and quietly kickstarted the fundraising effort with an anonymous £500 donation.
Sir Charles had deep roots in Cove, spending summers at Clevedon House. Both his parents are laid to rest at Barbour Cemetery, adding a touching family connection to Jamie’s visit.
Our Chairman Graham Bell and local historian Richard Reeve gave Jamie the grand tour, including a stop in the Library to see the wonderful Kilcreggan Pier Bell. The bell originally came from the cargo steamer Clan Lamont, built in 1900 for Clan Line Steamers Ltd., owned by Cayzer, Irvine & Co. of Glasgow — yet another layer of Cayzer history woven into the story of CBH.
