Many thanks to everyone who braved the dreich weather and joined us for a delightful, relaxing afternoon of music with The Andrew Cruickshank Duo and Rachel Hynes. Rachel’s extraordinary voice filled the hall as she performed classics such as Autumn Leaves, O Mio Babbino, Somewhere, Bach’s Air on a G String, and the finger-snapping Fever.
Board Chair, Graham Bell gives a preview of the challenges, and ‘looking to the future’ ideas, that will be shared at the upcoming Open Day on March 22. His starting point is the historical context that emphasises that the Hall is old – very old at 132 years! Herein lies the challenge.
Cove Burgh Hall operates entirely thanks to an amazing team of volunteers who devote their energy, time, and expertise to its success. This spotlight highlights the contribution of one of the Hall’s longest and most loyal volunteers – Richard Reeve.
Cove Burgh Hall has recently received two large donations from dance groups using the hall. The Line Dancers, led by Colin Bateson, held a 4-hour Danceathon and donated £440 to the hall, as well as a similar donation to the First Responders. Despite Storm Bert, this year's book festival brought large audiences and only one author decided the weather was too hazardous.
However we heard from Beatles groupie Ken McNab, fearless war correspondent Jen Stout, poet, playwright and all round national treasure Liz Lochhead, broadcaster and Glasgow raised Asmah Mir, award winning writer Peter Ross, comedian turned author Josie Long and GP, author and adventurer Gavin Francis.
There was a power cut in Kilcreggan in January. Cove Burgh Hall was opened to provide a warm, safe space for all those in the village without power - anyone could pitch up and find the building open.
