COVE BURGH HALL TAKES CUSTODIANSHIP OF KILCREGGAN PIER BELL

The bell is inscribed with the ship's name - The Clan Lamont which was the 2nd ship of that name to be owned by the Cayzer line - launched in 1900 and decommissioned (scrapped in Barrow) in 1928. At that point the bell was donated to the Kilcreggan community by Charles Cayzer, 3rd baronet of Gartmore.

It has been kept in the storeroom at the end of Kilcreggan pier since it was built in 1965. Successive pier masters looked after it but recently the post of Pier Master has been removed.

When made aware of the situation and asked, the council Ferry Operation Manager was happy to relinquish responsibility by transferring ownership to the Cove and Kilcreggan community. Gavin Walker (last Pier Master) led these discussions and handed over custondianship to Cove Burgh Hall Board Chairman, Graham Bell.

The plan is that it will be hung in CBH Library and will be on display when the library is open.
