The Peninsula Choir was set up in September 2010.
Stephen Adam, formerly of Scottish Opera Orchestra, led the choir from its inception until Covid Lockdown in March 2020.
Our Musical Director is now Moira Frize-Williams. Moira was born in Helensburgh and moved back here from Essex in August 2020. She had trained in Aberdeen and taught there for two years before moving to teach in Germany in a school for British Forces children. She also taught the flute and piano in a German Music school. Moira was Head of Music in various secondary schools in Essex and encouraged students in orchestras, choirs, jazz bands and musical theatre. She has sung professionally and as choir director she has conducted adult choirs, choral societies and community choirs, singing everything from Bach to Boogie. Moira is the Musical Conductor of the Lomond and Clyde Community Orchestra, which meets weekly.
The Peninsula Choir has an exciting and mixed repertoire from Classics to Pop, Folk to Musicals and everything in between.
We are funded by ticket sales at our concerts and by other income including small community grants. We run a ‘tight ship’ but need our income to pay for a range of expenditure such as hire of Cove Burgh Hall.
As a community choir we never ask for auditions - a love of singing is all that is required. You do not have to be expert at reading music!
Our rehearsals begin in September each year preparing for our two annual concerts, the Winter Concert in December and our April/May Spring Concert. We give these concerts in the Cove Burgh Hall and at venues in Helensburgh.
Rehearsals are held in the Cove Burgh Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30pm, except on the first week of each month when we meet on the Thursday.
If you would like to sing and to enjoy the social side of the Choir, including tea/coffee and biscuits at half time in each rehearsal, do come along. For more information contact Seonaid on seonaid2001@yahoo.co.uk
