This is Scotland-based, Portuguese director Carriera’s highly acclaimed debut film, and follows the path of Aurora, who has left sunny Portugal for not-so-sunny Scotland. She finds work in an Amazon-like ‘fulfilment centre’, where the monotonous, exhausting work is not done by robots, but by humans treated like robots. Aurora’s struggle to survive and to reclaim her humanity is portrayed with deep perception and compassion, and gained strongly positive reviews.
